How do you get 100 francs for your repair in Zurich?

Since July 10, 2026, the City of Zurich has been contributing to repair costs. Anyone who lives in the city and has something broken repaired can get up to one hundred francs back per year. The process is handled through the new flick-it portal. We have examined the conditions in detail and show you here, step by step, how to claim the bonus.

Wie kommst du in Zürich zu 100 Franken für deine Reparatur?

The essentials at a glance

  • How much: A maximum of one hundred francs per person and calendar year, per order fifty percent of the repair costs
  • For whom: Private individuals aged 18 or over who live in the city of Zurich
  • What for: Repairs to electrical appliances, textiles, and shoes
  • Where: The contribution can be obtained via the city's flick-it.ch portal and redeemed at registered repair businesses
  • How long: Three-year pilot project, launched in July 2026

What the City of Zurich does exactly

The repair bonus is part of a three-year pilot project by Entsorgung + Recycling Zürich. The City Council approved one-off expenditure of around 3.85 million francs for it. The idea behind it is simple: A repair can quickly cost as much as a new device, and at precisely this point many people opt to buy new. The bonus shifts this calculation.

The city expects to support around 40,000 repairs over the project period, thereby saving approximately 960 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. The portal itself estimates the savings per repair at up to 550 kilograms of CO₂ compared with buying a new product.

Around one million francs are available each year for payouts. The fund is replenished at the beginning of each calendar year, and contributions are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. In concrete terms: the long-awaited repair is now more affordable.

Who receives the bonus

The requirements are straightforward:

  • You are a natural person and at least 18 years old.
  • You live in the city of Zurich. You confirm this on the portal by self-declaration.
  • You use the bonus privately, not for business purposes.
  • You have not yet used up your bonus during the current calendar year.

“I don't even know whether the repair is worthwhile.”

This is the point at which most repairs fail before they have even begun. You suspect that the display will be expensive, but would also rather save the fifty or sixty francs that would merely confirm this suspicion. The repair bonus removes precisely this hurdle.

The cost estimate is also subsidized.

Not only the repair itself is eligible for funding, but also the cost estimate. The city covers up to 30 francs for this.

Three points to note:

  • The contribution applies even if you subsequently decide against the decide to have the repair carried out. The assessment alone is eligible for funding.
  • If you want to have the repair carried out, it must be done at the same business happened.
  • The cost estimate and repair costs together must not exceed 100 francs per year.

This means you can find out where you stand without it costing you much.

What is and is not covered

Eligible repairs include:

  • Electrical appliances
  • Textiles / shoes

The city reserves the right to add product groups or exclude individual categories during the pilot project.

The following are not eligible for a contribution:

  • Warranty extensions
  • Maintenance and service work
  • New purchases
  • Repairing it yourself. Purchasing spare parts alone does not count.
  • Exchanging it for a new or another refurbished device

The final point is often overlooked: The bonus supports repairing your device. If you exchange your defective phone for a refurbished device instead, this does not qualify for the repair bonus, even if it is otherwise a good solution.

Guide: Get your bonus in five steps

1. Determine what needs repairing

Think about exactly what is defective. With a smartphone or laptop, this is usually obvious, such as a cracked display or a worn-out battery. If you are unsure whether the repair is worthwhile, get a cost estimate first. As described above, the cost of the estimate also qualifies for the bonus.

2. Find a suitable business on flick-it.ch

On the portal, enter what you want to have repaired in the search field. You will then see the registered businesses in your area. The bonus can only be redeemed at these businesses—this is the key point.

3. Generate the bonus

On flick-it.ch, you confirm your place of residence, accept the terms of participation, and receive your personal bonus code. It is available as a download and can be saved or printed.

Important: deadline The bonus is valid for 30 days from the time it is issued. If it is not redeemed within this period and recorded on the platform by the repair business, it expires. So only generate it once you are actually commissioning the repair.

4. Commission the repair and present the code

Take your device to the selected business and, ideally, mention the bonus code when making your inquiry. This allows the business to check in advance whether your repair qualifies for the bonus and record the discount correctly.

5. Keep track of the remaining amount

If your repair costs less than 200 francs, you have not yet used up your 100-franc allowance. Example: For a repair costing 120 francs, the city covers 60 francs. You can use the remaining 40 francs for another repair in the same calendar year.

Why we think this is a good idea

The device with the longest lifespan is always the one you already own. Every repair that replaces a new purchase saves all the embodied energy of a new device. That is precisely the essence of the circular economy: keeping products in circulation for as long as possible, repairing instead of replacing, and only considering refurbishment at the end of their useful life.

The Zurich repair bonus makes this decision a little easier by offsetting the financial disadvantage of repair. The fact that the city also strengthens the local repair industry is an added benefit.
